An overview of Dropbox

Nowadays Cloud Storage has become an integral part of our modern and mobile lives. There are a lot of Cloud storage services available in the market today, Dropbox is the simplest amongst them. Dropbox is a well implemented and easy-to-use file organizing tool with some unique features which make it prominent from its competitors. A brief description of its features is as follows:

Cross-Platform Support: Dropbox offers clients for almost all the famous OS platforms including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Linux

Download and Installation: Dropbox can be downloaded from the company’s website (http://dropbox.com). iOS version is in Apple's mobile app market, Android app and BlackBerry app are in their respective marketplaces. After installing the client, a folder named "Dropbox" will be created on your computer. To use Dropbox, you simply store files in the Dropbox folder, everything else is automatic.

File Syncing: This feature mirrors the contents of the Dropbox folder to your other devices, i.e., PC, Laptop, Tablet, or Smartphone, that also have the Dropbox client installed. This process is automatic and quick.

File Sharing: This feature allows you to collaborate with people remotely and share files with existing Dropbox users in just a couple of steps. For Non-Dropbox users, you can send links which allow them to view the data.

Website Access: If needed, you can also access your files by simply logging in to the Dropbox website.

Security: Dropbox ‘s Security features include two-step authentication. AES 256-bit encryption is being used for the files held on the Dropbox servers. SSL provides security for the data being uploaded and downloaded.

File History: Dropbox preserves older versions of your files for 30 days. If you want more than that, you need to pay for a Pro account with a service called Packrat, which allows you to preserve an unlimited number of old versions of all your files including any deleted files.

2-Dropbox Pro(Dropbox Basic Plus)- provides 1TB of space at a cost of $9.99 /.
3-Dropbox for Business(Dropbox Pro Plus)- provides a lot at a cost of $15/user /month.


In addition, Dropbox offers 500MB of additional free storage for each friend you refer to sign up to the service, with a limit of 16GB.
