Building a Career as a Freelance Writer

In today’s world, many people seek to become freelancers, but only a few follow through on their ideas. Most people just make weak effort and then go back to their routine jobs after failing. If you want to become successful you will have to make an effort. The thing is, even if you follow the right path you are not guaranteed huge amounts of money instantly, it may take some time to start earning a good income.
The first thing you have to decide is if you want to work full time as a freelancer or work part-time and also continue your current job. Initially, it is advisable to work part-time as a freelancer and when you have enough clients you can go into freelancing full-time.
One mistake a lot of people trying to be freelance writers make is that they think all writing jobs are same. This is far from the truth, there are different kinds of writing, like web content writing, academic writing and writing for magazines. So you have to choose what type of writing you want to do, don’t make the mistake of trying to do everything.
Writing samples are really important for people who want to get into freelance writing. Whenever you apply for jobs the first thing employers will ask for is writing samples. So if you don’t have any writing samples you need to make a writing portfolio before you applying for any freelance writing jobs.

The final thing you need to concentrate on is the rate you charge. So before making any bids you can survey the writing industry and check what the other writers are charging and then bid accordingly. You will have to take into account that you are a beginner, so clients may not be willing to pay you the same rate they are paying to experienced freelance writers.
